Van Vleck House & Gardens was once owned by the Van Vleck family but is now managed as a non-profit community resource. Featuring a public botanical garden of mostly ericaceous plants developed over several generations and boasting numerous hybridized species like rhododendrons and azaleas named for members of their family, Van Vleck is now an accessible community resource with public botanical garden that draws many visitors each year.
Established in 1868 as a country retreat from industrial life, this property still remains an oasis of green within the city. Open daily from dawn to dusk 365 days a year free of charge for public viewing and maintained by an on-staff Director and Board of Trustees with interpretive programs, volunteer opportunities and student activities that demonstrate our ongoing dedication to horticultural study and outreach in our local community.
