Recent visits to Montclair Foundation’s garden were a pleasure, offering breathtaking views of its blooms. Thanks to their loving care and attention, azaleas and rhododendrons have flourished under the watchful eye of their owners.
This beautiful garden holds a special place in our hearts and it’s the perfect destination to spend a weekend with friends or family. You can enjoy its grounds any day of the week, while learning about its fascinating history through various events held throughout the year.
This picturesque spot is ideal for family photos! The wisterias that cascade over the Doric columns have outlived their expected lifespan, creating the illusion of being in an enchanted grotto, a romantic setting from a fairy tale.
In addition to the garden, there are many interesting attractions within its grounds. The tennis court provides an opportunity for some exercise while the arboretum showcases exotic and hardy plants.
At the center of these grounds stands a U-shaped Italianate villa built for Howard Van Vleck’s father, Joseph. Over three generations of Van Vlecks lived here until it was donated to Montclair Foundation in 1993.
It is the last family residence remaining on the grounds, and has since been used as a center for non-profit organizations and open to the public for meetings and seminars.
As part of our ongoing dedication to horticulture, we are pleased to assist with the maintenance and rehabilitation of this historic site. We envision that visitors will continue to be inspired by its beauty as well as our ancestors’ legacy of community involvement, education and gardening.
