Van Vleck Gardens are open and free to the public year-round, 365 days per year. There is also a donation box near the house should anyone wish to make a contribution – these exquisite gardens are beautifully maintained, while staff is warm and friendly!
The grounds are home to various kinds of small gardens. You can navigate them at your own pace, with plenty of benches both sunny and shaded areas for relaxing or reading a book; also picnicking is encouraged or just taking in its beauty. A stunning wisteria was planted by Howard Van Vleck in 1939 which boasts beautiful purple blooms over its columns in the portico of the house; you may spot some rare pieces of art like sculpture within this beautiful oasis garden!
At the center of this property is a pond which serves as home for many fish and amphibians, while nearby plants include water lilies, swan-shaped lily pads, hydrangeas and iris – you may even spot birds or other wildlife at this pond!
At Van Vleck Gardens during the holidays, they come alive with lights. The grounds are filled with holiday spirit including an impressive scarecrow display that spans across both traditional and creative scarecrows – it will remain on view through Sunday Oct 24. This beautiful spot is ideal for family outings, date nights or just wandering the grounds and appreciating nature.
