When you need a cup of “coffee with integrity” to help get your day started, Java Love Coffee Bar Church Street is your go-to spot. Owners Jodie Dawson and Kristine Petrik are an LGBTQ+ couple and run this small-batch roaster as a business built for love.

Located in the heart of downtown Montclair, Java Love Coffee Bar Church Street is a family-friendly coffee shop that’s become a local favorite. Surrounded by shops and restaurants, it’s a cozy neighborhood coffee bar that’s perfect for catching up with friends and family after work or on the weekend.

What to Expect

Founded by Jodie Dawson and Kristine Petrik, Java Love Coffee Bar has grown into a small-batch artisan coffee roaster with four locations (Suffern and Bethel, NY + downtown Montclair/Upper Montclair, NJ). The owners describe their business as “accidental entrepreneurs” and are known for their passion for community connection and quality coffee done right.

Their Fair Trade, organic, sustainably farmed and rainforest alliance beans are hand-crafted into specialty drinks and blends. Their roasted coffee is available at more than 50 restaurants, markets and retailers across the Northeast.

What to Look For

The Montclair location features industrial chic design with rustic elements that incorporate wood found in the basement of their Bethel shop and reclaimed wood from their building renovation. The baristas are known for their creativity and experimenting with new coffee blends, teas and cocktails.

They also have an amazing selection of baked goods like cookies, muffins and cakes that you can take home for later. The best part is that they make these treats gluten free and vegan.

There are also plenty of juices, smoothies and hot chocolate to choose from at this local coffee shop. Their menu includes a variety of milk options, including almond, soy and coconut. They even have a handful of “monuts” buttermilk muffins that are rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

What to Order

They also offer sandwiches, wraps and scones that are not to be missed. If you’re looking for something a little more filling, they have a line of raw breakfast bars and granola bars that can be purchased at their Suffern and downtown Montclair locations.
