Sally Monterrosa, owner of Boho Cafe and Boho Hair Salon is a lifelong resident of Montclair and is passionate about local business. Her businesses have become a staple in the community and continue to attract people from all over the area. Her restaurants and salon are easily recognizable for their stunning boho-chic esthetic. We had the pleasure of sitting down with her to learn more about what makes this business so successful.
Boho Café is a small, dimly lit restaurant in a strip mall on the edge of town. When you walk up to the clouded glass door, it is reminiscent of a speakeasy. The phone number isn’t posted anywhere and the only way to make a reservation is to have been referred by someone who has dined there before. It is an exclusive experience which makes the restaurant even more intriguing.
The menu is incredibly unique and is constantly changing to reflect the seasonality of ingredients. The flavors pack a punch with a range of savory and spicy dishes. You can order anything from a simple bowl of rice to a slow braised pork belly or caramelized honey-glazed salmon dish. There are also a number of vegetarian and vegan options as well. For dessert, you must try the pavlova!
This small, darkly lit restaurant has a very limited seating capacity and is usually booked months in advance. The food is fantastic and the service is impeccable. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxing. The prices are a bit high but it is worth it.
Boho is a hidden gem in Montclair, NJ. The ambiance and the food are amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a cozy place with great food.
